provides easy yet meaningful science activities for grades k-8. Science to Go was written by Barbara Smith, Magnet Coordinator at Harvard Elementary, Houston (TX) and former Teachers Network web mentor.

Paper Towers

Objectives: 
Cause and effect, measurement, making observations, inferences, and conclusions.

Activity: 
Give each student or group of students a meter of butcher paper, 30 cm of masking tape, and scissors. Within a set limit of time (at least 30 min.), have them build the tallest free-standing tower they can. At the end of the time limit, have them measure their towers and discuss principles of construction.
