English and Journalism

Creative Writing for Kids - The Mining Company's Creative Writing site offers a variety of activities, advice, and sites of interest to budding writers. The guide for this section divides her content to make it age appropriate for younger or older (up to 15) kids. Send in your work for editing suggestions, or for publication.
Guide to Writing a Basic Essay - This presents the basics of essay writing and an excellent links collection including writing sources, grammar and study aids, and bibliography resources.

The National Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education - (NCBE) is funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Bilingual Education and Minority Languages Affairs (OBEMLA) to collect, analyze, and disseminate information relating to the effective education of linguistically and culturally diverse learners in the U.S.
News and Weather on the Web - Links to several collections of newspapers, magazines, and other periodicals, including foreign-language newspapers.
Virtual Tourist - A map-based interface to City.Net, the Web's most extensive library of communities. Here you can find general information, tourist guides, and pictures for thousands of places.

French

    The Age of Enlightenment - Age of enlightenment shown through the paintings of France's national museums.
    Canadian Government - This well-designed site provides thorough information about Canada and its institutions. It is available in English and French.
    Ministre de la Culture - Cultural information about France; a good site for sudents and teachers who wish to read in French. (Text available in English and French.)
    Page del'Hexagone - This Cornell University site is introduced by a table of contents listing aspects of French life including art, food, culture and sports.

International Directory of Art Libraries - The search engine here is "provided as a means to access over 3,000 libraries and library departments with specialized holdings in art, architecture, and archaeology throughout the world." You can find it here, whatever it is!

Mathematics

Cornell Math and Science Gateway - This site provides links to resources in mathematics and science for educators and students in grades 9-12, although teachers of other levels may find these materials helpful.
CHANCE- This data base contains materials designed to help teach a probability course. CHANCE is a new introductory course being developed cooperatively by several colleges and universities. It is based upon current chance events as reported in the daily newspapers. CHANCE is designed for undergraduates, but may be of interest in high schools, as well.
Eisenhower National Clearinghouse - a large list of math resources, but subscription is now required.
Graphics for a Calculus class - This is a collection of graphical demonstrations developed for first year calculus, but suitable and interesting for high school students as well. From Douglas Arnold.
Homepage for New Math Teachers - written by a 20 year veteran - Terry Santi, for new math teachers.
The Math Forum - A virtual center for math education on the Internet; includes pages specifically for educators and K-12.

Challenger Center - explore and discover a host of educational activities and programs while capturing the magic of space exploration.

The Environmental Atlas - The Environmental Atlas is a tool for researching environmental policy world-wide. The Atlas uses a standard set of criteria to categorize environmental conditions and policies and facilitates quick access to information about a single country, as well as comparisons between countries.
Inventor World - Inventor World is a great site for anyone ages 8 or older. You can see the newest inventions in work, travel, recreation and sports. It has patent and copyright information for inventors.
JASON Projects are set of projects sponsored by NASA and others with the purpose of getting children involved in and excited about scientific exploration.
Mr. Wizard Homepage - info on Teacher To Teacher with Mr. Wizard and the Mr. Wizard Science Video Library.
NASA Spacelink - An Aeronautics and Space Resource for Educators Since 1988
NASA - Space shuttle information, Mars exploration and lots more. You can even send them questions on email!
PageWorks - This site includes beautiful animated animals which the author allows people to use non-commercially.

Social Studies

Africa - African art, culture, cooking, and information about each country.
African-American History - A large collection of African-American history sites on the web.
Any Day: Today-in-History - There are no end of calendars online that offer information about what happened on a certain day in history, but this has one of the simplest interfaces and most complete listings. Contains sections such as birthdays, deaths, missing in action, events, holidays, and religious events of the day. Great for trivia buffs and fact finders alike.
