STUDENT COMMITMENT CONTRACT

I, _________________________________________, commit myself to helping in taking care of my environment.  Instead of driving in a car or bus, I choose to walk, ride my bike or carpool with someone else to reduce the smog in the air. In order to prevent more pollution coming from garbage I will  reduce my garbage by recycling what I can, create a compost bin for biodegradable items, and I will reuse those items that others can use or make things usable in some other way.  I promise to conserve water by not letting the water run while I am bathing or washing my teeth.  I promise not to litter the beaches, lakes, or rivers.  I will pick up litter that I see, even if I did not throw it.  I will take time to write letters to congressmen and other people that have the power to do more than me.

Sample pages for the Three R's presentation.

 RECYCLE

  • Recycle means that you don't throw away bottles, plastics, cans or newspapers.

  • You collect them and give them to a recycling center.

  • They take them to shops where they use these items to make new products.

Here are some ways you can recycle:

  • Buy stuff that can be recycled.  The label tells you.
  • Get bins from your neighborhood recycling center. Recycle cans, glass, plastic and newspapers.
  • Use some of those materials to make crafts as gifts.

Here is one thing that cannot be recycled:  ALUMINUM

Aluminum can be reused.  If you collect the cans, some companies will buy them from you.

____________________________________________________________________________

REDUCE means to try not to use things that produce garbage or pollution.

Things you can do to reduce:

  • Buy products that don't have a lot of packaging.
  • Borrow something you will use only once.
  • Carpool, walk, ride bike instead of using the car.
  • Create a compost bin to get rid of the biodegradable instead of throwing in garbage.
  • Use the internet to view the newspaper instead of buying it everyday.

___________________________________________________________________________

REUSE  means to use something again and again.
  • Take old clothes, shoes and furniture to a donation center instead of throwing in the garbage.
  • Find a way to use old tires.  Maybe a swing.
  • Use old newspaper to make your own paper.
  • Reuse the plastic bags. Some supermarkets have bins to place them in the store.
  • Create a compost bin to get rid of the biodegradable. It becomes fertilizer for the plants.
