Savoring Halloween with Graveyard Pizza

This unit is designed to help students learn about the community (including the grocery store), cooking, and Halloween. The recipe for this lesson is from the Internet and a pictorial shopping list and recipe and Halloween sheet were created on BoardMaker (graphics database containing Picture Communication Symbols).

Teacher Steps To Prepare

1.      Find recipe on the Internet.

2.      Create pictorial shopping list and recipe on BoardMaker.

3.      Create Halloween worksheet on BoardMaker.

Student Activities

1.      Purchase ingredients by going to a grocery store.

2.      Follow the recipe and cook Graveyard Pizza.

3.      Complete a worksheet about Halloween while waiting for the food to cook.

Assessment Methods

If students are able to successfully go into the community, complete the cooking activity, and identify the Halloween pictures then they have mastered the goals. (This does not need to be done independently to achieve mastery.)
