Against the backdrop of receiving a grant to conduct action research—focused on improving student research and writing skills across the curriculum—this case explores to what extent time and money should be made available for teacher collaboration. What are the roles and responsibilities for teachers and their schools related to professional development?

Discussion Questions:

  1. How can teachers continue to create successful programs without financial incentives and financial support built into school budgets?
  2. Are our public school teachers being recognized for their efforts that extend beyond the work day to our students success? Professionals deserve a pay equitable to their professionalism!
  3. Is time being given to teachers to collaborate during the school day to help create the successful student?
  4. How can we continue to keep highly qualified teachers like Janet in the profession?
