Flower Investigation
Names _______________________________
1. Do you have a monocot or dicot flower?
2. Locate the sepals. How many does your flower have?
3. How many petals does your flower have?
4. Are the colors of the sepal and the petals the same?
5. Tear off the sepals and the petals. You can use the hand lens to locate the stamens. How many are there?
When you are done, compare your findings with another group working with the same type of flower. List the notable similarities and differences.
Now share your findings with the other half of your
group. Can you find any major differences between these two types of flowers? List them.
Conclusion: What do you think are the characteristics of a monocot flower and a dicot
flower?
